Many people, including myself, can share great testimonies of how God worked in their lives at Youth Camp. A week away from the craziness of our lives to focus on God is a great opportunity. As I work with other youth ministers to plan camp each year, we continually pray for this camp to be a spiritual mile marker in there lives. Something that teenagers will look forward to the next year or will look back at with great appreciation for who God is in their lives drives us to make camp something special.
A big motivation for me being the director of this camp is seeing that the camp we put on is a quality camp that doesn’t cost a lot to go to. We want to keep the cost low so that the cost of camp is not a reason for teenagers not to go. Part of that motivation is seeing smaller churches come that probably could not go to a more expensive camp come out with us and have a great time.
We continually strive to make camp a little different each year to keep it from being boring, but will ultimately do not want to change the God first focus that is central to all we do at camp. We use this God first focus to plan camp around a scriptural theme that is not just for a cool logo or idea, but for an intentional plan to show the relevancy of God in our daily lives. From the breakfast to the church time at the end of the day we want everyone involved to have several opportunities each day to encounter the Risen Christ hopefully making him the focus of their life.
